A 40-ft container, the choice for larger shipments, typically costs between $2,500 and $3,200 and has ample room for bulk, commercial or industrial goods such as steel, pumps and valves.
Cargo specifications. Hazardous, fragile or oversized cargo calls for extra handling; chemicals need IMDG or IATA DGR papers.
Shipping method. FCL means a dedicated container; LCL shares space and trims the cost of loads from 1 to 15 CBM out of Miami.

What the 20-ft and 40-ft rates to Trinidad leave out
The rates end at the port. Duty, VAT, customs fees and the broker are separate lines.
Container rates and sailing. A 20-ft container to Trinidad costs $1,500 to $2,000 and a 40-ft container $2,500 to $3,200, depending on cargo weight and origin. Those full container load rates include collection in the US, handling at Miami and sailing to Port of Spain or Point Lisas, 6 to 12 days from US ports.
LCL rate and destination duty. For smaller loads, our published LCL rate from Miami to Point Lisas is about $985 for 5 CBM / 1,500 kg, published in September 2026. Destination costs are billed separately. Trinidad and Tobago Customs applies CARICOM Common External Tariff duty by HS code, mostly up to 20%, and then 12.5% VAT on the CIF value plus duty.
Fees, concessions and broker. Customs fees were doubled from January 1, 2026, and excise applies to spirits, wine, tobacco and motor vehicles. Approved energy-sector projects can obtain concessions, but only with documents in place before clearance. A customs broker is mandatory for commercial imports and files the C75 or C76 declaration in ASYCUDA World, so the broker fee is another line to budget.
Dense cargo. Dense cargo such as pumps, valves and steel reaches the container weight limit before it fills the volume, which affects the rate you pay. Ask for each quote split into origin, freight, destination and taxes.

Ocean freight to Trinidad
We have worked ocean freight to Trinidad as a freight forwarder since 1992. Full container load (FCL) serves commercial and industrial cargo, which often lands at Point Lisas (TTPTS) beside the industrial estate, and less than container load (LCL) covers smaller volumes. Cargo is collected anywhere in the United States and trucked to our Miami warehouse, and we coordinate origin sailings from Spain, the rest of Europe, China and South America. Consumer goods are routed to Port of Spain (TTPOS).
FCL (full container load). Exclusive container use, with maximum security and efficiency for equipment and chemicals.
LCL (consolidated cargo). Cost-effective for smaller loads such as maintenance spares, because the container is shared.

Full containers from Miami, the Gulf and the East Coast take 6 to 12 days to Port of Spain or Point Lisas, and air freight lands at Piarco (POS) in 1 to 3 days. Consumer goods usually go to Port of Spain, while industrial cargo and drums for plants go to Point Lisas, next to the industrial estate.
Customs filing and oversized loads
Once the cargo is at sea, a Trinidad broker lodges the documents in TTBizLink and files the C75 or C76 declaration, and the importer pays duty, 12.5% VAT and fees before release. Oversized equipment moves on flat racks, open tops or as breakbulk. Tell us the origin state, volume and consignee, and we quote door to door.
