How bonded storage works with InterWF

  1. Cargo arrives at DP World Caucedo, Puerto Haina or AILA Las Américas (SDQ).
  2. It is transferred into our bonded warehouse without clearing Dominican customs at the port of entry.
  3. Duties and VAT are deferred until you withdraw the goods for the Dominican domestic market.
  4. During bonded storage, cargo can be inspected, re-packed, labeled or re-exported under DGA RD supervision.
  5. We support both FCL and LCL shipments under bond, including consolidated cargo from our Miami gateway through the Miami-SDQ corridor.

Depósito aduanero vs. zona franca: ¿cuál es la diferencia?

A bonded warehouse (depósito aduanero) is supervised by DGA RD and requires duty and VAT payment only when goods are withdrawn for Dominican domestic consumption. It is the right tool when your final market is the Dominican Republic itself, but you want to defer duty outlays and gain time for inspections, repackaging or staged commercial release.

A zona franca, by contrast, is regulated by CNZFE and offers a much broader exemption framework (no duties, no VAT and no income tax) provided the output is exported. It is the right tool when the Dominican Republic acts as a CAFTA-DR export platform rather than the final destination, typical of textile, medical-device and electronics clusters in Santiago, La Romana and San Pedro de Macorís.

Interwf operates in both modalities and helps clients choose the right one for each shipment.

FAQ´s

A bonded warehouse in the Dominican Republic, locally called a depósito aduanero, is a DGA RD-licensed storage facility where imported goods can be held under customs supervision with duties and VAT deferred until the cargo is withdrawn for the Dominican domestic market. It is widely used by importers managing seasonal inventory, regulated commodities or shipments awaiting final commercial decisions. Bonded status also allows certain handling operations such as labeling and repackaging to take place under DGA RD oversight before duties are paid.

Importers, customs brokers and freight forwarders moving international cargo under DGA RD supervision can use a bonded warehouse in the Dominican Republic. It is particularly relevant for companies running Miami-SDQ trade lanes, importers of regulated products such as pharmaceuticals or food handled under DIGEMAPS, and logistics providers managing consolidated cargo for Dominican retailers. Interwf works with both single-shipment users and clients with continuous bonded flows.

Under DGA RD rules, goods can remain in a depósito aduanero for an initial bonded period that may be extended in line with the regulations applicable to the cargo type and the company’s compliance record. Pharmaceuticals, food and other regulated categories may carry additional constraints from DIGEMAPS or MSP. Our team monitors deadlines and notifies clients well ahead of any required action.

A bonded warehouse defers Dominican duty and VAT payment on cargo eventually destined for the local market, while a zona franca under CNZFE is a free-zone regime where duties, VAT and income tax are exempted entirely, provided the output is re-exported. Bonded is the right tool for Dominican imports; zona franca is the right tool for export-platform operations to the US under CAFTA-DR. See our dedicated zona franca page for the export-platform setup.
