FAQ

Free trade zone services in Miami, answered

What importers, exporters and distributors ask before storing goods in our FTZ.
Ask us directly
or call +1 (646) 722-0968

What is a free trade zone?

+
A free trade zone (FTZ) is a designated area where imported goods can be stored, handled or processed without immediate customs duties or taxes. FTZs operate under the Foreign-Trade Zones Act of 1934 and are supervised by CBP under 19 CFR Part 146.

What are the eligibility requirements for using FTZ services in Miami?

+
Businesses involved in importing, exporting or distribution can apply for FTZ services, provided they meet U.S. Customs and Border Protection regulations. Goods are admitted to the zone with CBP Form 214 (application for FTZ admission), and the operator keeps inventory records that CBP can audit.

How does duty deferral work?

+
Duties on imported goods stored in an FTZ are postponed until they leave the zone for domestic use, which reduces upfront costs for businesses. Duties are paid when goods are entered for US consumption, with the entry filed on CBP Form 7501, so cash stays in inventory instead of duty.

Do re-exported products pay customs duties?

+
No. Free trade zone services in Miami eliminate customs duties for re-exported products, while goods entering U.S. commerce get duty deferral and potential reduction, and customs clearance is faster with reduced paperwork and compliance delays. Re-exports leave the zone under the same export filings used for any US shipment, such as Electronic Export Information in AES where required.

Can I store both domestic and imported goods in the FTZ?

+
Yes. FTZs allow businesses to store both types of goods while maintaining compliance with customs regulations. Imported goods are tracked by status, such as privileged foreign or non-privileged foreign, which determines the tariff treatment applied when they enter US commerce.

How long can I store goods in the FTZ?

+
Indefinitely, as long as they remain under FTZ procedures. Unlike a Class 3 bonded warehouse, where goods must be exported or entered within 5 years under 19 CFR Part 19, FTZ procedures set no fixed storage limit.

What services can you perform inside the zone?

+
We offer a full range of FTZ warehouse services: import and export management, secure short- and long-term storage, inventory control and distribution, and value-added services such as labeling, repackaging and quality control. We also handle all customs compliance and reporting. Labeling, repackaging and quality control are performed inside the zone while duties on the goods remain deferred.

How do I get an FTZ storage quote?

+
Send the product, volume and destination market through the form. Dani replies within one business day with storage, handling and rates itemized. Include the HTS code or product description, quantity, value and whether the goods will be re-exported or entered for US consumption.
