How Much Does it Cost to Ship a Container to UAE?

The price to ship a container to Puerto Rico is calculated primarily on the basis of the following cost elements:

  • The country and port of origin for the shipment, and the port of arrival in the UAE.
  • Seasonality (freight rates are higher in peak season, for example).
  • The distance over which your container will be conveyed.
  • The size of the container (20-foot or 40-foot) in FCL shipping.
  • Weight and volume of LCL cargo.
  • The demand for shipping capacity.
  • Fuel prices.

Container Shipping Rates to UAE

Container shipping rates to the UAE are calculated with a range of factors taken into account, such as container size, the shipping route (ports of departure and arrival), and other cost elements as mentioned elsewhere on this page. Our table provides examples of average FCL shipping rates.

If you use FCL shipping, you’ll find that prices for shipping 40-foot containers tend to be higher than for 20-foot containers, as indicated by the table data.

Please note that we haven’t included any rates for LCL freight forwarding, as pricing is based on the weight, volume, and dimensions of individual shipments. Indeed, that’s why if you plan to ship smaller volumes of cargo to the Emirates, LCL shipping will probably be the cheapest way to do it.

How Long Does it Take to Ship a Container to UAE?

If you’d like to know about some average transit times for container shipping to the UAE, check out the table we’ve provided. While you will see that it shows shipping durations from various countries of origin, please be aware that the location of ports within a country can make a significant difference to transit time.

Due to the UAE’s central geographic location, there is not as much variance in transit times as you might see when shipping to ports in the Americas, for example.

Containers from Asian ports and from the USA take about the same length of time to arrive in the Emirates. Meanwhile, for European exporters, transit times from Mediterranean countries are considerably shorter than from Northern European ports such as Rotterdam and Hamburg.

Ocean Freight to UAE

At Interworld Freight, we bring you all the benefits of ocean freight shipping in containers, the most straightforward and convenient method of transporting larger shipments to the UAE. Whether you choose full-container-load (FCL) or less-than-container-load (LCL) shipping, we have all your freight needs covered with our comprehensive door-to-door services.

If you’re not certain about the pros and cons of FCL versus LCL shipping, here are a couple of rules of thumb. In general, FCL shipping will be most appropriate if your freight can fill a 20-foot or 40-foot container to at least 50 to 60% of its capacity, or if you want exclusive use of a shipping container.

If you have a smaller consignment to ship to the UAE, LCL freight forwarding might be your best option, since you only pay for the space your cargo occupies. For example, it would rarely make sense to use FCL shipping if your consignment comprises just two or three pallets of merchandise or non-commercial goods. LCL shipping would be much more economical in such a case.
