There is no direct sailing from China. Cargo leaves a Chinese port on a mainline transpacific vessel, relays at a hub, and arrives on a feeder.
The relay points are Kingston, on the Windward Passage close to the mainline Asia-to-US-East-Coast route, and Caucedo in the Dominican Republic. Both are close to the mainline route, and Interworld Freight consolidates through Miami. The structure is covered in Caribbean transshipment hubs.
What sets the range. The range comes from the Chinese port of loading, not from the island: in Interworld Freight's LCL tariff of July 21, 2026, Shanghai reaches Miami in 18 days, Qingdao and Shenzhen in 35 and Ningbo in 37, and the Miami to Turks and Caicos leg adds 2 to Providenciales and 3 to Grand Turk. The totals are port-to-port sailing days. They exclude the cargo cut-off at the origin warehouse, the wait in Miami for the next sailing and customs clearance on arrival.
Our consolidated service quotes 20 to 39 days from the Chinese port to Providenciales, with arrivals on Monday and Saturday. Shanghai quotes at 20 days, Qingdao and Shenzhen at 37 days and Ningbo at 39 days. Grand Turk adds 1 day: 21 to 40 days in total, with arrivals on Sunday.
Regional comparisons are in China to Caribbean transit times.
| Component | Basis | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ocean freight | Per CBM (LCL) or per container (FCL) | Feeder-served, thinner frequency |
| Origin and destination CFS | Per shipment or per CBM | LCL only |
| Terminal handling, both ends | Flat | n/a |
| Customs brokerage | Per entry | n/a |
| Import duty | 30% on most items; most food 10 to 15%; some specialty categories 40% | The revenue mechanism |
| Consumption tax | None | No VAT, no sales tax |
The duty spread is the planning variable. A shipment of mixed cargo can carry three different rates, and the difference between the 10 to 15% food band and the 40% specialty band is larger than any freight cost in the shipment. Classify line by line rather than applying one rate to the invoice total. The regional table is in Caribbean import duties and taxes, and the cost anatomy in China to Caribbean shipping cost.
Container freight station capacity is limited and feeder frequency is thin, which pushes the breakeven earlier and makes schedule reliability worth paying for.
Interworld Freight runs the consolidated option from origin CFS in China through local clearance: LCL shipping from China to the Turks and Caicos. For full containers, container shipping to the Caribbean. The mode analysis is in LCL vs FCL for Caribbean imports.
Providenciales, through the South Dock facility, is the principal cargo gateway and serves the island where most of the population, tourism development and commerce sit. Capacity there is modest relative to the value of the trade, and berth constraints shape which vessels can call.
Grand Turk handles smaller volumes and serves the capital. If your consignee is on Grand Turk, North Caicos or Middle Caicos, plan the inter-island leg as a separate cost and schedule element rather than assuming it is included.
Imports are administered by TCI Customs.
customs.gov.tc/asy. Input and assessment are done by the importer or their representative, and system access requires a user application and registration form to be submitted to the department first, after which a login is issued. Arrange that before you need it, not when a container is already on the water. As in the other British Overseas Territories, duty is the only significant lever, which means there is no offsetting mechanism to blunt a classification error. Get the HS codes right before the goods leave China.
Duty is the only tax on this lane, so the classification of each line sets the whole bill. Take a USD 10,000 consignment with three product groups and compare a flat 30% rate with line-by-line classification:
| Line | Value (USD) | Rate | Duty (USD) |
|---|---|---|---|
| General merchandise | 6,000 | 30% | 1,800 |
| Food products | 3,000 | 10% to 15% | 300 to 450 |
| Specialty category | 1,000 | 40% | 400 |
| Line-by-line total | 10,000 | 2,500 to 2,650 | |
| Flat 30% on the invoice total | 10,000 | 30% | 3,000 |
The flat rate overpays by USD 350 to USD 500 on this invoice, and the opposite error underpays the specialty line and invites a post-clearance assessment. Both errors come from the same cause: an invoice without HS codes per line. The values are illustrative round numbers applied to the article's rate bands.
Interworld Freight's July 21, 2026 rate refresh prices a 5 CBM, 1,500 kg consolidation to the two Turks and Caicos ports on an FCA basis:
| Origin | Providenciales (USD / days) | Grand Turk (USD / days) |
|---|---|---|
| Miami | 980 / 2 | 975 / 3 |
| Valencia | 2,465 / 20 | 2,460 / 21 |
| Shanghai | 2,525 / 20 | 2,520 / 21 |
| Shenzhen | 2,560 / 37 | 2,555 / 38 |
Grand Turk costs USD 5 less and takes one more day from every origin, so the choice of port follows the consignee's island and not the freight. The Shanghai and Shenzhen origins are USD 35 apart and 17 days apart in transit. At 1,500 kg the shipment is 1.5 revenue tonnes against 5 CBM and bills on volume. See Chinese ports serving the Caribbean for how the origin port is chosen.
The mix is dominated by the resort and construction economy: building and finishing materials, hospitality furniture, fixtures and equipment, kitchen and food-service equipment, consumer electronics and appliances, and furniture for residential development.
Resort FF&E is the category that defines this lane. It arrives against opening and renovation dates that do not move, it is fragile and high value, and it lands on an island with thin feeder frequency where a missed connection holds the cargo until the next feeder. Book early, ship sealed containers where the volume supports it, and treat the relay connection as the thing you are buying rather than the freight rate.
Interworld Freight is a global freight forwarder headquartered in Miami, running transpacific consolidation from China alongside its transatlantic, Middle East and Oceania trades. The wider lane is in shipping from China to the Caribbean, and the territory with the same no-tax, high-duty structure in shipping from China to the Cayman Islands.
Our consolidated service quotes 20 to 39 days from the Chinese port to Providenciales: 20 days from Shanghai and 37 days from Shenzhen, with arrivals on Monday and Saturday. The Chinese port to Miami leg takes 18 days from Shanghai and 35 days from Shenzhen, and the Miami to Providenciales leg takes 2 days. Grand Turk adds 1 day. Cargo relays through Kingston or Caucedo and arrives on a feeder.
30% on most items, with most food products at 10% to 15% and some specialty categories at 40%. There is no VAT or other consumption tax. Because the spread between bands is so wide, mixed consignments should be classified line by line rather than having a single rate applied to the invoice total.
No. There is no VAT, sales tax or other consumption tax. Import duty is the revenue mechanism, which is why the rates are several times higher than the CARICOM Common External Tariff bands. The absence of VAT does not make the landed cost low.
Providenciales, through the South Dock facility, is the principal cargo gateway and serves the main population and commercial centre. Grand Turk handles smaller volumes. If your consignee is on Grand Turk, North Caicos or Middle Caicos, plan the inter-island movement as a separate cost and schedule.
Consolidated shipping is the choice on cost below 8 CBM, and up to 12 CBM unless a container quote prices lower. Between 12 and 18 CBM, price both and weight the container side for schedule reliability, since a sealed box is not reworked at the relay. Above 18 CBM a container wins.
The relay connection against a fixed opening or renovation date. Feeder frequency is thin, so a missed connection holds the cargo until the next feeder, and air freight is the only way to recover the date. Book early and buy control of the relay rather than the cheapest ocean rate.
