What is a Shipping Label?
A shipping label is a crucial part of the shipping process, as it contains all the essential information about a package’s journey, from the origin address to the final destination. Shipping labels also include details about the carrier, tracking numbers, and handling instructions. These labels ensure that the package is delivered accurately and on time. Return labels are often included with shipments, allowing customers to send back items easily if needed, using pre-printed return label stickers.
How to Create Shipping Labels
Creating shipping labels is a straightforward process, but it's essential to include the correct information to ensure smooth delivery. Here's how you can create them:
- Gather Information: You'll need details like the sender's address, recipient’s address, package weight, dimensions, and shipping method (e.g., standard, express).
- Use Shipping Software or Carrier Tools: Most carriers offer tools to generate shipping labels. You can either log in to your carrier’s website or use third-party shipping software to automate the process.
- Add Tracking Information: Make sure the label includes a tracking number and barcode, which allows both the shipper and recipient to monitor the package’s progress.
- Return Labels: If you’re offering returns, include return label stickers with the package. These pre-printed labels help streamline the return process for customers.
Print Your Shipping Label
Once you have created the shipping label, it’s time to print it. Most shipping platforms allow you to print the label directly from their website or software:
- Use a Standard Printer: Shipping labels can be printed on regular paper, which can then be taped securely to the package. Ensure the label is placed clearly and is fully visible on the package.
- Label Printer: For high-volume shippers, using a dedicated label printer that prints shipping labels on adhesive paper is more efficient. This method provides return label stickers directly on adhesive sheets, making it easy to apply them to packages.
Multiple Copies: If necessary, print additional copies of the label for your records, or to include inside the package.
